samsung fridge error code 42

My Samsung fridge has the Error Code 42. What does it mean?

While it may be concerning to find your appliance with numbers, letters, or blinking icons appearing on the display, these indicators are actually an easy way for you to diagnose the problem with your appliance so you can go about fixing it. These modern conveniences make it so your machine doesn’t need to be taken apart fully before the problem can be found.

Instead, the code will signal a certain issue that you can then determine if you can fix it yourself or need to call an appliance repair technician for assistance. Also, if you need appliance repair, these codes allow you to find out just how much the appliance repair is going to end up costing you.

This self-diagnosing system is included in most modern Samsung fridges. When you see one of these codes appear, do not unplug the fridge unless the display directs you to. It is also best not to interact with the panel. If you do either of these things, the appliance repair technician will have a harder time diagnosing and repairing the issue.

We are going to walk you through your Samsung fridge’s self-diagnosing process so you can figure out what exactly is wrong with your appliance.

Performing a Self Check on Your Samsung Fridge

If your fridge has Family Hub, you can easily see a list of all of the current and past error codes that the fridge has encountered by running a self-check cycle. To do this, navigate to the Apps section on your Family Hub and then proceed to the Fridge Manager menu.

From there, tap the Fridge Settings, and then tap the Self Check option. Once you are ready to begin the self-check cycle tap Start. Now all of the past and current error codes will be displayed and you can see what current errors the fridge is encountering currently so you can find out how best to deal with it.

Error Code 42

If after performing the self-check cycle on your Samsung fridge the Error Code 42 appears, do not worry, this is usually a very quick and easy fix. First, reboot Family Hub by pressing the power switch located on the top right of the inside of the door. Reboot the system and do the self-check cycle once again.
